| Obverse description | Central field bears the interlocked royal monogram of Joanna and Charles (I and C), with the C appearing inverted, set within an inner beaded circle. The monogram is rendered in a bold Gothic style characteristic of early sixteenth-century Iberian hammered coinage. A Latin legend reading IOANNA ET CAROLVS R encircles the monogram between two concentric beaded borders, identifying the joint monarchs as rulers. The coin's irregular flan, typical of hammered production, is evident at the periphery. |
