| Obverse description | Full-length frontal effigy of Emperor Charles V, crowned and clad in armour, standing facing right, holding an orb in his left hand and a scepter in his right. The imperial figure is rendered in a stiff, hieratic style characteristic of 16th-century German goldsmith work, set within the field against a plain background. The encircling Latin legend names the emperor and his imperial title. |

| Reverse description | Five-line Latin inscription set within an ornately decorated rectangular cartouche, the frame adorned with symmetrical foliate and scroll ornaments at the corners and along all four sides, topped by a decorative crown-like finial. The inscription, reading DVCATVS / .CIVIT. / BISVNT / AD. LEG. / IMP. 1655, occupies the full interior of the cartouche, with the date 1655 appearing on the fifth line. The overall design is characteristic of the Besançon immobilized ducat series, imitating earlier imperial coinage whilst bearing a contemporary date. A small die-sinker's mark or privy mark appears at the base of the cartouche. |
