1/2 Ducat - Carolus I

Valencia maintained the right to strike its own gold coinage well into the Habsburg period, and Carolus I — Charles V of the Holy Roman Empire — inherited that prerogative when he arrived in Spain in 1517, an inexperienced Flemish teenager who spoke no Castilian and was deeply unpopular with the Aragonese Crown's constituent kingdoms. The Valencian revolt of the Germanies (1519–1523) erupted partly from this tension, yet the mint continued operating through the conflict.

Cal#24 is among the scarcer Valencian gold fractions of the reign, with documented examples showing significant die variation across the nearly three-decade emission span.
