Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, the city gate of Genoa (castello) is depicted centrally, flanked on either side by the initial letter A, referencing the Doge Antoniotto Adorno. The gate is rendered in a stylized, Gothic manner typical of Genoese hammered coinage of the early sixteenth century. A beaded border separates the central device from the surrounding circular Latin legend in the outer field.
