Obverse description The arms of Bern — a diagonally striped oval shield bearing a rampant bear — displayed at centre within an elaborate Baroque scrollwork cartouche surmounted by a mural crown. The heraldic shield is flanked by acanthus-scroll supporters, and the entire composition rests on foliate ornaments. The circumferential legend MONETA · REIPUB · BERNENS runs around the periphery in Roman capitals, with a small star stop at the base, the whole enclosed within a toothed milled border.
Obverse script Latin
Obverse lettering MONETA · REIPUB · BERNENS
