Obverse description Within a quadrilobe border adorned with floral motifs at each corner and encircled by a beaded (greneti) outer ring, the four letters L-V-C-A are arranged in cruciform fashion around a central pellet, forming the civic name of the issuing republic. A circular Latin legend surrounds the entire composition in the outer field.

Reverse description Within a beaded (greneti) outer ring, a frontal representation of the Holy Face (Volto Santo) of Lucca, depicted wearing a rayed or flowered crown with floral ornaments at the sides and a cross at the center, rendered in the characteristic Byzantine-influenced stylistic tradition of the Lucchese coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the image in the outer field.
