| Beschrijving keerzijde | Crowned, elaborately quartered shield of arms set within a baroque decorative frame, bearing the central escutcheon of Savoy. The arms represent the composite dynastic territories of the House of Savoy. The chain of a chivalric order encircles the shield. | Aanvullende informatie |
Victor Amadeus II spent much of this period in active military alliance with the Habsburg powers against France during the War of the Spanish Succession, a conflict that placed Savoy's territory under direct French military pressure — including the siege of Turin in 1706. That the Savoy mint continued producing gold coinage through these years reflects the fiscal demands of maintaining an army, not prosperity. The duchy's eventual reward was the cession of Sicily in 1713, elevating Victor Amadeus to king.
