背面描述 Elaborately quartered royal coat of arms of the House of Savoy, surmounted by a royal crown, displayed within an ornate shield. The escutcheon incorporates the multiple heraldic quarterings representing the dynastic territories of Savoy, Sardinia, Cyprus, Jerusalem, and Montferrat. A circular Latin legend surrounds the shield, reading DVX SAB ET MON TISF PRINC PED, referencing the ruler's titles as Duke of Savoy, Montferrat, and Prince of Piedmont. The overall composition is highly detailed, consistent with the refined engraving tradition of the Turin Mint in the mid-eighteenth century.

附加信息

Charles Emmanuel III spent much of the early 1740s prosecuting the War of the Austrian Succession, and Turin's mint output during 1741–42 reflects the financial strain of maintaining Piedmontese forces in the field. The half doppia was a practical denomination — large enough to move meaningful sums, small enough to circulate among officers and merchants rather than sitting purely in treasury transfers.

Savoy's gold coinage of this period is frequently found with slight adjustment marks, a result of the Turin mint's unusually rigorous weight control practices relative to other Italian states.
