Reverse description The reverse presents a bold depiction of the Half Moon, the Dutch East India Company vessel commanded by Henry Hudson during his 1609 exploration of the river that bears his name, sailing in three-quarter view across open waters. The ship is rendered in fine detail with full sails billowing and rigging clearly delineated, occupying the majority of the field. A crescent moon appears in the upper left field. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs along the upper periphery, with IN GOD WE TRUST inscribed in the upper inner field. The denomination HALF DOLLAR appears along the lower border, flanking the word HUDSON rendered in decorative lettering at center base, with the engraver's initials CB visible at lower left.
