The unicorn here is drawn from the Solomon Islands coat of arms, granted by royal warrant in 1956 — one of the few national heraldic achievements in the Pacific to incorporate a European mythological figure without irony. This is a bullion-adjacent souvenir issue rather than circulating coinage; the Central Bank of Solomon Islands has produced a steady stream of silver-plated copper pieces for the collector market since the 2000s, none of which have ever seen a cash register in Honiara.
