The legend SOLOMON ISLANDS arcs along the upper border, flanked on each side by Greek key ornamental devices. The denomination HALF DOLLAR is inscribed in the field to either side of the portrait, and the date 2020 appears along the lower border within a further Greek key decorative band. The engraver's initials IRB appear below the truncation of the bust. |

The Surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown in October 1781 effectively ended major combat operations in the American Revolutionary War, though Britain and the United States did not sign the Treaty of Paris until September 1783. The Solomon Islands has no historical connection to that event — this is a modern commemorative struck purely for the collector market, a practice the Central Bank has pursued aggressively since the 1990s with themed issues bearing little relation to national history.
