| Reverse description | A full-color reproduction of Raphael's celebrated Renaissance fresco 'The School of Athens' (c. 1509–1511), originally painted for the Stanza della Segnatura in the Vatican, occupies the entire rectangular reverse field. The composition depicts a grand classical architectural setting with barrel-vaulted arches receding in perspective, within which a large assembly of ancient Greek philosophers and scholars gathers. The central figures of Plato and Aristotle are prominently rendered mid-field, surrounded by numerous identifiable philosophers engaged in discourse, study, and geometric demonstration. The vibrant polychrome coloring faithfully reproduces the tonal richness of Raphael's original composition. No legends or inscriptions appear on the reverse. |
