Issued in the year following Elizabeth II's death, this piece commemorates the 70th anniversary of the 1953 coronation — an event the Solomon Islands, then a British protectorate, marked with considerable ceremony despite being administered from Honiara under a resident commissioner. The Solomon Islands only gained independence in 1978, meaning the coronation preceded self-governance by a quarter century.
