The Solomon Islands has built a substantial commemorative program around Pacific and colonial history themes, often issued through external minting houses for the collector market rather than circulation. This half-dollar copper piece marks the 1620 arrival of the Mayflower colonists — the 400th anniversary falling in 2020 — an event that had no geographic connection to the Solomons whatsoever, which is precisely the point: the issuing authority is essentially a licensing arrangement.
At 62 grams in copper, this was struck for cabinet display, not exchange.
