The legend 'ELIZABETH II' runs along the left peripheral field and 'SOLOMON ISLANDS' along the upper arc, with 'HALF DOLLAR' descending along the right. The date '2020' is inscribed in the lower field. The portrait is set against a deeply mirrored proof field. |

Apollo 15 landed in the Hadley-Apennine region in July 1971 — the first mission to use the Lunar Roving Vehicle and the first to be led entirely by scientist-trained geologists. Commander David Scott conducted the first deep-space EVA while still in transit, standing through the open hatch of the command module. The mission returned 77 kilograms of lunar samples, more than any previous Apollo flight.
The Solomon Islands has issued commemorative pieces under licensing arrangements with various distributors since the 1990s, with much of the output destined for the collector market rather than domestic circulation.
