Obverse description A standing draped figure of Justice occupies the center of the field, facing slightly left, holding a balance scale in her right hand and a fasces in her left. To the left stands a columned neoclassical building (the First州House of South Carolina), and to the right appears the South Carolina State House. The word LIBERTY appears to the left of the central figure, with the founding date 1786 at lower left and the commemorative date 1936 at lower right. The surrounding legend reads SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION OF THE CAPITAL COLUMBIA SOUTH CAROLINA, arranged around the full circumference of the coin.
