Niue has served as a prolific licensing jurisdiction for commemorative silver issues since the 1990s, with the New Zealand Mint producing the bulk of them under Niuean authority. This piece marks the 250th anniversary of the December 1773 event in which roughly 342 chests of East India Company tea were dumped into Boston Harbor — a direct response to the Tea Act, which granted the Company a monopoly that undercut colonial merchants even while imposing an unwanted tax.
