Reverse description A bold American bald eagle with wings spread is depicted perched atop a shield derived from the Alabama State Seal, its head turned to the left with talons gripping the shield's base. A ribbon or banner inscribed HERE WE REST curves above the eagle's head, referencing the state motto. The engraver's initials LGF appear in small letters in the right field. The circumferential legend STATE OF ALABAMA arcs along the upper periphery, while the dates 1819 and 1919 flank the lower field to commemorate the centennial of Alabama's statehood, and the word CENTENNIAL appears along the lower border.
