| Reverse description | The reverse depicts a helmeted infantryman in full combat gear, prone and aiming a rifle atop a sandy beachhead, evoking the amphibious island-hopping campaigns of the Pacific Theater. A damaged palm tree rises to the right of the central figure, while a warship and a diving enemy aircraft are rendered in the background at left and upper left respectively, conveying the multi-dimensional nature of World War II combat. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs along the upper rim, the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM appears in the lower field above the denomination HALF DOLLAR, which is inscribed prominently along the lower rim. The Philadelphia Mint mark P is visible in the lower central field. The engraver's initials TNF appear in the lower right field. |
