| Beschrijving keerzijde | Aniconic hammered silver reverse bearing a bold multi-line Arabic legend in Maghribi script, centered across the field. The inscription proclaims the ruler's messianic and caliphal title, reading 'al-Mahdi Khalifat Allah' (al-Mahdi, Caliph of God), a powerful legitimizing formula adopted by Abu Mahally. The lettering is deeply struck and relatively well-preserved, with characteristic overlapping strokes of Maghribi calligraphy. Small decorative pellets or floral stops are visible between and around the lines of inscription, a common ornamental feature on Saadian hammered coinage. The flan edge is irregular and slightly clipped, consistent with hand-cut blanks of the period. |
