Sudan's dinar currency system, introduced in 1992 to replace the pound at a rate of ten pounds to one dinar, was plagued from the start by economic instability and political fragmentation following the 1989 Bashir coup. This ½ dinar piece was prepared for circulation but never released — likely rendered obsolete before distribution by the rapid inflation that was already eroding the dinar's lower denominations into practical uselessness.
