Opmerkingen

Tunisia's first post-independence banknote series, of which this is the lowest denomination, was issued in November 1958 — roughly two years after France formally recognized Tunisian independence, and the same year the country adopted its new constitution. The Banque Centrale de Tunisie had only been established in 1958, replacing the colonial-era currency infrastructure, so this note was literally among the first instruments the new central bank put into circulation.

Bradbury Wilkinson printed the entire inaugural series. The New Malden facility handled a significant share of newly independent nations' first currency contracts through this period — Tunisia was one of several African states that went through them in the late 1950s.
