| Obverse description | Right-facing draped bust of Liberty, her flowing hair tied with a ribbon and cascading over her shoulder, rendered in the neoclassical style engraved by Robert Scot. The legend LIBERTY arcs along the upper periphery, with the date positioned in the lower exergual area. Six-pointed stars flank the effigy on both sides, with eight stars to the left and seven to the right on the standard 1796 die, though varieties exist with differing star counts for 1797 issues. A fine beaded border frames the entire design. Notable die varieties include the LIKERTY error (B punched over L) and the 6/5 overdate. |
