Obverse description Central field displays the episcopal arms of Bishop Hildebrand I of Riedmatten, consisting of a quartered shield bearing the characteristic heraldic devices of the See of Sion, surmounted by a mitre at the top. The shield is set within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding Latin legend, reading HILTERBRANDVS · DER · EPS · SED ·, identifies the issuing bishop, with the lettering distributed around the circumference in a Gothic or transitional hand typical of mid-to-late sixteenth-century Swiss ecclesiastical coinage.
