The circular legend REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE runs along the periphery, divided by the effigy, with REPUBLIQUE to the left and FRANCAISE to the right. The design is executed in high relief in the refined neoclassical style characteristic of Jacques-Jean Barre's work for the Paris Mint. |
