| Obverse description | Left-facing draped bust of Ceres, the allegorical female effigy of the French Republic, with wavy hair and an elaborate corona composed of seated putti or infant figures. The engraver's signature BARRE appears in the exergue beneath the truncation. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE runs along the periphery, divided by the effigy, with REPUBLIQUE to the left and FRANCAISE to the right. The design is executed in high relief in the refined neoclassical style characteristic of Jacques-Jean Barre's work for the Paris Mint. |
