| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field bearing the denomination expressed in three lines as the fraction 1/2 above DÉCIMO and DE REAL., the latter followed by a period. The denomination is framed within an ornate wreath composed of flowering branches adorned with blossoms, pomegranates, and foliage, tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The wreath opens at the top, allowing the fractional numeral to appear above the main text. The finely engraved botanical elements reflect the skilled craftsmanship associated with William Wyon's work for the Royal Mint, London. |

New Granada's copper fractional coinage of the 1840s emerged from a broader effort to address chronic shortages of small-denomination specie that had plagued the region since independence. Silver simply wasn't being struck in quantities sufficient to handle everyday transactions, and the gap fell to copper. The 1847–1848 issue was struck at Bogotá.
The republic itself was dissolved in 1858 with the formation of the Granadine Confederation, making this among the final coinage types issued under the New Granada name.
