Obverse description Half-length effigy of Philip II facing left, crowned and robed, holding a scepter in his right hand while his left hand rests upon a quartered shield bearing the arms of Spain, Burgundy, and Austria. The royal portrait is rendered in the prevailing Renaissance style of the Southern Netherlands. A circular Latin legend surrounds the entire composition within a beaded inner border.
