| Obverse description | Armored and draped bust of Philip II, King of Spain, facing left, depicted with a short beard and ruffled collar in the Renaissance courtly fashion. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the cuirass and drapery. The circumferential Latin legend reads PHS • D : G • HISP Z • REX • COMES • HOL •, with the date 1574 appearing in the lower field. The coin is struck on an irregular flan typical of hammered coinage of the period, with a milled or grained border visible along the rim. |
