| Obverse description | Mature veiled effigy of Queen Victoria facing left, wearing the so-called 'Old Head' — a small diamond and sapphire coronet over a veil — as modelled by Thomas Brock. The truncation of the bust is draped, and the initials T.B. appear at the lower truncation. A continuous Latin legend encircles the portrait within the coin's raised rim, identifying the sovereign by her royal titles. |

| Reverse description | A crowned quartered shield of arms — displaying the heraldic devices of England, Scotland, and Ireland — is displayed at centre, set within the Collar of the Garter. The shield is flanked by the legend, which records the monarch's additional imperial titles, and the divided date appears in two numerals separated by the shield at the lower portion of the field. The whole is contained within a raised outer rim. |
