| Opis awersu | Royal cypher 'C·R' (Carolus Rex) in Roman lettering surmounted by a large royal crown, all set within a plain double circle. The bold, simply rendered crown features fleurs-de-lis and cross-pattée finials typical of Stuart heraldic imagery. The design is primitively struck on an irregular planchet, consistent with the exigencies of siege coinage produced at Kilkenny under the authority of the Marquess of Ormonde. No peripheral legend surrounds the design, the crowned monogram serving as the sole identifier of royal authority. The coin exhibits characteristic flatness and uneven metal flow resulting from crude hammered production. |
