Reverse description A crowned quartered shield of arms, bearing the royal arms of England and Scotland, France and Ireland, centrally placed and breaking the inner beaded circle. The royal cypher flanks the shield on either side within the inner circle. The whole is surrounded by a circumferential Latin legend within a beaded outer border, with a mintmark at the commencement of the inscription. The reverse design reflects the Union of the Crowns iconography characteristic of James I's coinage.
