| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse displays a crowned quartered royal shield of arms at centre, bearing the arms of France (fleurs-de-lis) and England (lions passant guardant) in alternate quarters, flanked by the uncrowned royal cypher 'H R' (Henricus Rex) in Gothic script. The shield is surmounted by a Tudor crown of elaborate arched design. The surrounding legend, inscribed in Latin uncial lettering between beaded borders, proclaims Henry VIII's titles as King of England, France and Ireland. The flan is irregular and slightly clipped at the edges, consistent with hand-hammered gold coinage of the period. |
