| Obverse description | Bare-headed left-facing effigy of King George VI, modelled in high relief with finely detailed hair, after the design by Thomas Humphrey Paget, whose initials HP appear truncated at the neck. The portrait is rendered in a naturalistic style characteristic of mid-twentieth century British coinage. The surrounding legend reads GEORGIVS VI D:G: BR: OMN: REX, separated by raised dots, running clockwise from lower left to lower right. The entire design is contained within a toothed border. |

| Reverse description | The quartered royal shield of arms, bearing the arms of England, Scotland, and Ireland, is displayed at centre, flanked on either side by the crowned royal cypher GRI (Georgius Rex Imperator). The design was engraved by George Kruger Gray. Above the shield runs the legend FID:DEF IND:IMP, and below appears the denomination HALF CROWN with the date. The whole composition is enclosed within a beaded border, with the engraver's initials KG discreetly placed within the design. |
