Leif Eriksson's connection to the Isle of Man commemorative program stems from the broader Norse settlement narrative — the island was under Viking control from roughly the 9th century, and the Manx legal and cultural framework retains visible Scandinavian roots to this day. The Tynwald, still functioning as the island's parliament, takes its name directly from the Old Norse þingvöllr.
