Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of King Charles II facing right, rendered in high relief with flowing long curls of a periwig falling over the shoulders, engraved by John Roettier. The king is depicted with classical Roman-style drapery, fastened at the shoulder. The circumferential legend CAROLVS·II·DEI·GRATIA is struck in raised Roman capitals, divided around the effigy, against a smooth field. The coin exhibits a distinctive milled edge and a fine grained border of raised denticles encircling the entire obverse.
