Reverse description A rectangular declaration panel, divided by two horizontal lines into three registers: the upper register bears three Prince of Wales feather plumes surmounted by crowns; the central register contains the two-line Latin declaration legend 'RELIG PROT LEG ANG LIBER PAR'; and the lower register displays the date '1643' in large Roman numerals. The whole is surrounded by a beaded inner circle with the outer circular legend in Latin. This distinctive reverse type was introduced at Oxford to proclaim the Royalist cause during the English Civil War.
