Obverse description The ornate Cláirseach (Brian Boru harp), the traditional Irish heraldic harp, is depicted in high relief at the centre of the field, rendered with fine detail including decorative knotwork on the soundboard and pillar. The legend 'ÉIRE' appears in Gaelic script along the left rim, while the date is inscribed vertically along the right rim. A beaded border runs along the outer edge of the coin.

Reverse description A finely modelled Irish Hunter horse stands in full profile facing left, occupying the majority of the field and rendered in naturalistic style by engraver Percy Metcalfe. The Gaelic legend 'LEAT CORÓIN' is inscribed along the left and upper rim, reading 'Half Crown'. The denomination '2S6D' appears in the exergue at the base, flanked by the engraver's initials 'PM' to the right. A beaded border encircles the entire design.
