The surface is heavily patinated with a dark brown-green encrustation typical of copper coinage from the Indo-Scythian period, with the letter forms rendered in relatively shallow relief consistent with small hammered copper denominations. The legend occupies the entirety of the die face without a figural device, reflecting the purely epigraphic obverse convention employed on certain minor bronze issues of Azilizes. |
Azilizes ruled the Indo-Scythian Kingdom during a period of fractious succession, likely following Azes I, though the precise dynastic relationship between the two remains contested among scholars.
