Descrizione del dritto	The Ecuadorian national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a condor with spread wings perched atop an oval shield flanked by two furled national flags draped to either side. The shield bears a river scene with a steamship and snow-capped mountains in the background. A laurel branch and a palm branch flank the shield at lower left and right respectively, tied at the base with a ribbon. The circular legend REPUBLICA DEL ECUADOR runs along the upper periphery, and the date 1909 appears in the exergue below the arms. The coin is bordered by a continuous beaded rim.

Descrizione del rovescio	The denomination inscription MEDIO CENTAVO is displayed in two lines of bold, incuse lettering at the centre of the field, enclosed within a wreath of laurel branches that meet at the base tied with a ribbon bow. The mintmark H for Heaton and Sons, Birmingham, appears below the wreath at the bottom of the field. A beaded border rings the entire reverse.
