Obverse description A bare-chested male figure, emblematic of Filipino industry and labor, is depicted kneeling in three-quarter profile to the right upon a stone pedestal, striking an anvil with a hammer held in his right hand. In the right field, a smoking volcano rises in the background, evoking the Philippine landscape. The circumferential legend is divided, reading HALF CENTAVO along the upper arc and FILIPINAS along the lower arc, all within a beaded border.
