| Obverse description | The national arms of Ecuador displayed centrally, comprising an oval shield bearing a steamship on a river beneath the volcanic peak of Chimborazo, surmounted by a condor with wings spread. The shield is flanked by four national flags draped to either side, with a fasces and laurel branch at the base. The legend REPUBLICA DEL ECUADOR curves along the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering, and the date 1890 appears in the lower field. The design is framed by a beaded border. |
