Pattern issues for Ceylon's fractional coinage were occasionally struck in precious metals as presentation or approval pieces, never intended for circulation. This 1891 gold striking almost certainly exists in single-digit quantities — colonial pattern survivorship at this denomination is exceptionally poor, with many known only from a single institutional example. The Royal Mint's records for Ceylon patterns from this decade are incomplete, making precise mintage figures impossible to establish with confidence.
