Obverse description The central round hole is flanked by the large incuse monogram 'RF' (République Française), with a Phrygian liberty cap positioned above the hole at twelve o'clock. An oak and laurel wreath encircles the entire central design, bounded by a rope-pattern rim. The engraver's signature 'E. LINDAUER' appears in small characters at the base of the wreath within the lower field.

Reverse description The central round hole is framed by a delicate wreath of grain sprigs, their stems crossing below the hole and radiating symmetrically upward to either side. To the left of the hole appears the fraction '1/2' and to the right the denomination 'CENT', with the 'C' stylistically incorporating the hole into its design. The curved legend 'INDOCHINE FRANÇAISE' arcs across the upper field in bold raised letters, with the word 'ESSAI' (trial) appearing in smaller characters to the left. The date '1935' is inscribed in the lower exergue, flanked by small mint marks, and the whole design is enclosed within a braided rope border.
