Ceylon's half cent lingered well past its practical usefulness — by the 1910s, it was among the lowest-value coins in active British colonial circulation anywhere in the empire. The issue continued largely because existing vending and toll infrastructure in Colombo had not been updated to ignore it, not because anyone particularly wanted the denomination to survive.
Struck at the Royal Mint, London throughout its run. The series ended in 1926 without fanfare, and the denomination was not revived under subsequent coinage reforms.
