| Aanvullende informatie |
Sierra Leone's first post-independence coinage, including this half cent, was issued in 1964 following the country's break from British colonial currency administered through the West African Currency Board. The WACB had served British West Africa as a unified monetary zone, and its dissolution required each newly independent nation to establish its own coinage infrastructure from scratch. Sierra Leone contracted the Royal Mint for this inaugural series.
The half cent denomination was abandoned almost immediately — it proved too small for practical use in Sierra Leone's economy and was not struck again after this single issue year.
