| Obverse description | The central round hole is flanked by the large incuse initials 'R' and 'F' (République Française), with a Phrygian liberty cap positioned above the hole at the top of the design. An ornate wreath of oak branches with acorns and stylized foliage encircles the entire composition within a rope-pattern border. The engraver's signature 'EM LINDAUER' appears in small letters at the base of the design, just inside the border. The overall style reflects the Art Nouveau-influenced republican iconography characteristic of early twentieth-century French coinage. |

| Reverse description | The central round hole is framed by two symmetrical grain sprigs rising from a crossed-stalk motif at the base, their ears curving gracefully around either side of the perforation. The denomination '1/2' appears in large numerals to the left of the hole, while 'CENT' is inscribed within a stylized cartouche to the right. The curved legend 'INDOCHINE FRANÇAISE' arches across the upper field in two lines, and the date '1940' is placed in the lower exergue between decorative stops. A rope-pattern border runs along the entire outer rim. |
