Obverse description Enthroned effigy of Queen Joan of Naples facing forward, crowned and robed, seated upon a throne flanked by two lions. In her left hand she holds a sceptre and in her right a fleur-de-lis. The figure is rendered in the Gothic style characteristic of 14th-century Provençal coinage, with the surrounding legend in uncial Latin characters identifying her as Queen of Jerusalem and Sicily.
