| 背面描述 | Central field features the rampant lion of Bologna, depicted in vigorous heraldic style facing left with one forepaw raised, occupying the majority of the reverse field. The lion stands on a ground line with a simple, unadorned background. The circular legend MEZZO BOLOGNINO is distributed around the periphery in Latin characters, clearly identifying the denomination. The overall design is bold and simple, consistent with the utilitarian character of this low-denomination copper circulation issue. |

Clement XII, born Lorenzo Corsini, was elected pope in 1730 at age 78 and was almost entirely blind within two years of taking office. Bologna operated its own mint under papal authority throughout this period, producing subsidiary copper coinage that circulated heavily in local markets. The bolognino itself was an ancient Bolognese denomination dating to the medieval commune, retained long past its political relevance purely by regional habit.
