Additional information

Enrique IV's billon coinage became the focal point of one of medieval Castile's worst monetary crises. His reign saw an explosion of unlicensed mints — at its peak, over 150 illegal or semi-authorized striking operations were active across the kingdom — debasing the vellon currency so aggressively that prices collapsed into chaos. The Cortes repeatedly petitioned the crown to halt the debasement, with limited effect.

The Seville mint was among the authorized houses, but even official output from this period varies wildly in metal quality and fabric.
